Swine Flu Precautions for Cherry Creek School District

Posted in Life

Wow! I just got an automated call from the Cherry Creek School District ( where my son goes to school ), about the Swine Flu precautions that they are taking.

That’s good to know. Yet… it makes you wonder what we’re in for.

Here’s their policy:

I suppose it would be a good thing for other schools to do the same.

Be careful when changing credit card information on PayPal

Posted in Entreprenerial stuff, Life

Here’s a tip: If you have to replace a card on Paypal, first add the new card, and then delete the old card if you have subscriptions.

I unfortunately just learned that the hard way. I attempted to use my card on a Google Checkout the other day, and it kept declining my card. I contacted my bank. They informed me that “My card had been compromised so they issued me a new card”.

Lovely. That meant I had to change the card I use for just about everything everywhere. Not a great way to spend a Monday.

The first thing I did was go to Paypal to replace the card number. I deleted the old card, and entered the new card. It was all in the same Paypal account, so I never thought I’d have an issue. The warning message I received before fully deleting the old card was simply:

“Since this is your only registered credit card, removing it will prevent you from sending credit card payments. Are you sure you want to remove this card from your account?”

Well, I just took that to mean that once I replaced the card, my payments would continue as normal.

Not so.

Immediately after I changed the information, I got about 15-20 emails saying that my subscriptions were canceled. YIKES! I’m an internet marketer, and I count on many of these subscriptions to do my work.

I contacted Paypal right away to ask if they could reinstate all my subscriptions and got the following response:

Thank you for contacting PayPal.

Hello, my name is Jeanette. I understand that removing a card from your
PayPal account cancelled the active subscriptions. I know this can be
frustrating and I am more than happy to help by setting your
expectations and provide you the needed guidelines

I regret to inform you that, much as I want to reinstate cancelled
subscriptions for every customer that have experienced the same
situation as yours, our system does not have an override available to
re-instate cancelled subscriptions.

I see that you have removed the card then added a new one. For
subscription not to be cancelled, the sequence of action should have
been to add a new card, update the subscription funding source with the
new card, then remove the unwanted card.

If the established credit card or bank account information is removed as
the funding source for a Subscription payment, the Subscription and
Recurring Payments will be canceled. Canceling a subscription cancels
all future scheduled payments of that subscription.
* Once a subscription has been canceled it cannot be reactivated
* The seller’s website should be accessed to establish a new
subscription with their service

For future reference: How to Change a Subscription Funding Source and
Prevent Accidental Cancellation

To change a subscription funding source you must find the transaction
for the original subscription creation in your account history. If you
are changing your funding source to a new credit card or bank account,
please add the credit card or bank account first by going to your
Profile. You can then follow the steps below to change the subscription
funding source.

1. Go to the PayPal website and log in to your account.
2. Click “History” at the top of the page.
3. Choose the “Subscriptions” field from the Show drop-down menu.
4. Check the “From” box and change date back 2 years or more, as
needed.
5. Click “Search.”
6. Click “Details” in the Details column of your Subscription
Creation.
7. Select the funding source you wish to use for future subscription
payments and click “Update Information.”

Note: The PayPal Plus Card, eBay MasterCard, and PayPal Buyer Credit are
not available as a funding source option for Subscriptions.

We appreciate your patience and understanding regarding this matter, and
wish you continued success on PayPal.

Lovely! This means I have to contact all the places I have subscriptions with to reinstate my subscriptions. Many have hefty starting fees. Some subscriptions I joined had special introductory rates. All these merchants now have to set up a special sign up for me in order for me to continue as before.

I hope you learn from my experience. Add the new card before deleting the old one on Paypal.
