eBay Sale Down this Holiday. Duhh! Here’s the Reason.

Posted in Online Communities

I just had a bit of a laugh. I just read an article on the Wall Street Journal about ebay,
and how ebay sales have been hurting this holiday season.

As an eBay affiliate, I can tell you why. eBay recently changed the way that they pay their affiliate marketers. It used to be that a marketer got a % of the sale. Now, eBay pays a whopping 14 cents per click for most marketers.

Everyone knows that they can do much better with Adsense or Amazon in monetizing a site. So as a result, thousands of websites that once promoted eBay, are now moving in droves to Adsense or Amazon instead.

SAdly, eBay is still in a state of denial. They think it’s because there are no hard to find items other than Zhu Zhu pets.

Something tells me that when end of year figures come out, that Amazon will see a huge increase in sales, mainly because eBay promoters changed their sites around to promote Amazon products instead.

  1. Yep! That quality click pricing stinks! I quit promoting ebay.

I don’t know what people like about those zhu zhu pets. It’s pretty sad to think that eBay’s holiday business is relying on those things.

To be honest, I have not had a good experience with eBay either, but it was for different reasons.

I signed up, was approved, and started using the ads on one of my sites, so I could do some playing around with it. After several days, the ads were showing no impressions or click throughs, even though I knew just from myself there should be some.

So, after about two week of trying to get the support people to check out my page and see what was going on, including several of emails from support that said someone would get back to me, I finally just decided they weren’t worth the time…

Ebay always seems to change what they charge retailers based on how the market is doing. If Ebay is struggling they seem to always jack up the price. Not the best business model in my opinion, at least in the long term.

Have you seen the newest Nintendo DS -Zhu Zhu pet game. That will be the must have this christmas season.I’m sure someone will try and gouge the price up like last year on the zhu zhu pets.
